and smack the river’s back.

Sinking into its fast lane, I gulp cold water
and fight the strong current.

Slowly, I rise toward sunlight
and burst into air

fish bait, hooked
on a word.

Si tu ne sautes pas
on t’appellera comme ça.

Je saute.

Je saute du pont
et heurte le dos du fleuve.

Coulant dans sa voie rapide, j’avale de l’eau froide
et lutte contre le courant puissant.

et m’éclate en l’air

From tunnels & subways
on weekend nights they come
crisscrossing the street

In black leather

others straddle bikes
their engines revving.

One of them always strays
below my window.

of my thought binds him.

De longues queues

à plein tube.

L’un d’eux s’égare toujours
sous ma fenêtre.

de ma pensée l’attache.

Sans regarder
en bas
je marche sur son dos
et l’entends craquer.
